
Beef Keema with Potato

Keema's everyday spice and the starch of the potato balance against a medium-bodied red with soft fruit — Merlot or Barbera.
Ingredients
- 500 g beef mince
- 2 yellow onions, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, grated
- 2 cm ginger, grated
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 2 large potatoes, diced
- 400 g crushed tomatoes
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- 3 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 200 ml water
- Salt
- Fresh coriander
- Serving: basmati rice or naan
Method
- 1Sauté the onion in rapeseed oil for 8 minutes. Add garlic, ginger and chillies. Cook for 2 minutes.
- 2Add all the spices and fry for 30 seconds. Increase heat, add the mince and brown for 5 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon.
- 3Add tomatoes, potatoes and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
- 4Season with salt. Top with coriander. Serve with rice or naan.
